DELF 불어 능력 시험은 3개월 단위로 시험에 응시할 수 있다. 레벨 낮은 순서부터 A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2로 구분되며 A2레벨이면 생활에 필요한 불어를 구사 할 수있고, B1이면 학업을 충분히 따라갈 수 있다. 프랑스 대학교에 진학하기 위해서는 B2레벨 이상을 보유해야 한다. A2레벨은 불어공부를 시작하면 2~4개월이면 충분히 도달 할 수 있는 수준이다.
