대학소개
런던대학교의 17개 칼리지 가운데 하나로, 1916년 당시 해외 식민지를 경영하던 영국이 '동양학학교(School of Oriental Studies)'로 설립하였다. 1938년 아프리카학과를 신설하였고, 이후 아시아와 아프리카 각 지역의 언어·역사·정치·종교·문화·경제 등에 대한 수준 높은 연구대학으로 발전하였다. 1941년 현재의 자리로 이전하였고, 1946년 스카보로논문(Scarborough Report), 1961년 헤이터논문(Hayter Report) 등 아시아·아프리카, 사회과학에 대한 수준 높은 연구실적이 발표되는 등 질적인 발전도 이루어졌다.
영국에서 유일하게 아시아·아프리카·중동학을 전문으로 하는 대학으로, 예술·인문학부, 언어문화학부, 법학 및 사회과학 학부에 16개 학과, 3개 프로그램이 있다. 한 국가를 대상으로 한 학과는 중국학과와 일본·한국학과뿐이며, 전공과정은 200개에 이른다. 외국인 학생을 위한 대학·대학원 예비과정인 파운데이션 코스와 영어과정 등도 개설되어 있다.
학기는 수업 위주의 1, 2학기와 시험을 치는 3학기, 학기 중 부족한 공부를 보충할 수 있는 '리딩위크(reading week)'로 이루어진다.

메인 캠퍼스는 런던 시내 브룸베리의 러셀광장에 있으며, 2002년 이즐링턴(Islington)에 있는 버논광장에 제2캠퍼스를 열었다. 1973년 확충한 도서관은 아시아, 아프리카 지역에 관한 영국 국립도서관인데, 세계 4,000여 개 언어로 씌어진 100만 권의 장서를 보유하고 있다.

코스 소개
Undergraduate Foundation Programme (ICC)
SOAS에서 제공되는 대학예비과정 파운데이션코스로서 9월 또는 10월에만 시작되며 Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Business로의 진학이 가능하다. 본 과정을 통해서 SOAS로 바로 진학을 하거나 Royal holloway, LSE, UCL, Goldsmiths, King's college같은 대학교로의 진학도 가능하다. 모든 ICC 티칭은 SOAS staff에 의해서만 진행된다. 자세한 내용은 아래와같다.
Number of hours : Students have a total of 19 hours of classes a week, and you will be expected to study at least as many hours outside class reviewing and preparing for classes, reading, completing homework tasks and writing course assignments.
Types of classes : There is a range of class styles - students attend lectures, small group tutorials of 10 students and English language classes with a normal maximum of 12 students.
Timetable of classes : Classes are taught over 3 terms, each 10 weeks long. There is a reading week (a week without classes) in the middle of both the Autumn and Spring terms to give students a chance to catch up with their reading and work on their assignments.
There are practice exams ("Mocks") at the end of the spring term and final exams take place in the last three weeks of the academic year.

Foundation Diploma for Postgraduate studies(Pre-Master's Programme (FDPS))
석사예비과정으로 3텀으로 구성되며 9월 또는 10월에 시작되며 Humanities, Social Sciences, Business-related Studies
로의 석사진학을 원하고자하는 분들을 위한 프로그램이다. 본 과정을 통해 SOAS 뿐만아니라 LSE, UCL, King's college, Imperial College, Birkbeck college, Goldsmith's college, Royal holloway college, University of cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, nottingham, Manchester, kent등 상위랭킹의 학교들로 다양하게 지원하고 있다.
Number of hours : You will have between 16 and 18 hours a week of timetabled classes. In addition, you will be expected to spend at least 20 hours of your own time preparing topics for discussion, completing assignments and doing independent research and further reading.
Timetabled classes involve Lectures, English classes (maximum 12 students), Seminars (maximum 10 students), 1-1 tutorials
You are expected to attend all your classes regularly. SOAS has a minimum attendance requirement of 80% and poor attendance will probably affect your performance in class and the reports your teachers write for you, which will ultimately affect the references the department provides in support of your applications for postgraduate study or research.

SOAS에서는 Pri-intermediate 레벨이상의 학생들 즉 중급이상의 학생들만 공부할 수 있도록 제한해두고 있다. 가장 기본인 아카데믹영어와 한단계 영어레벨이 업되면 다음 텀에 아카데믹 과목들을 공부할 수있다.
우선 가장 기본이 되는 Intensive Academic English A1은 주당 18시간 공부하게 되며 영어레벨이 IELTS 기준으로 4.5점일 경우 본 코스부터 반드시 시작해야한다. 영어의 가장 기본인 listening, speaking, reading, writing을 공부하게된다.
영어레벨이 IELTS 5.0 이상 될 경우 Academic English A2,A3,A4를 수강할수 있다며 주당 10시간으로 구성된다. 본코스는 학사, 석사를 들어가기 전 아카데믹 과목에 따른 writing에 대한 스킬을 공부하는데, A4인경우 research methodology가 포함되어있다.

대학소개
런던대학교의 17개 칼리지 가운데 하나로, 1916년 당시 해외 식민지를 경영하던 영국이 '동양학학교(School of Oriental Studies)'로 설립하였다. 1938년 아프리카학과를 신설하였고, 이후 아시아와 아프리카 각 지역의 언어·역사·정치·종교·문화·경제 등에 대한 수준 높은 연구대학으로 발전하였다. 1941년 현재의 자리로 이전하였고, 1946년 스카보로논문(Scarborough Report), 1961년 헤이터논문(Hayter Report) 등 아시아·아프리카, 사회과학에 대한 수준 높은 연구실적이 발표되는 등 질적인 발전도 이루어졌다.
영국에서 유일하게 아시아·아프리카·중동학을 전문으로 하는 대학으로, 예술·인문학부, 언어문화학부, 법학 및 사회과학 학부에 16개 학과, 3개 프로그램이 있다. 한 국가를 대상으로 한 학과는 중국학과와 일본·한국학과뿐이며, 전공과정은 200개에 이른다. 외국인 학생을 위한 대학·대학원 예비과정인 파운데이션 코스와 영어과정 등도 개설되어 있다.
학기는 수업 위주의 1, 2학기와 시험을 치는 3학기, 학기 중 부족한 공부를 보충할 수 있는 '리딩위크(reading week)'로 이루어진다.

메인 캠퍼스는 런던 시내 브룸베리의 러셀광장에 있으며, 2002년 이즐링턴(Islington)에 있는 버논광장에 제2캠퍼스를 열었다. 1973년 확충한 도서관은 아시아, 아프리카 지역에 관한 영국 국립도서관인데, 세계 4,000여 개 언어로 씌어진 100만 권의 장서를 보유하고 있다.

코스 소개
Undergraduate Foundation Programme (ICC)
SOAS에서 제공되는 대학예비과정 파운데이션코스로서 9월 또는 10월에만 시작되며 Humanities, Social Sciences, Law and Business로의 진학이 가능하다. 본 과정을 통해서 SOAS로 바로 진학을 하거나 Royal holloway, LSE, UCL, Goldsmiths, King's college같은 대학교로의 진학도 가능하다. 모든 ICC 티칭은 SOAS staff에 의해서만 진행된다. 자세한 내용은 아래와같다.
Number of hours : Students have a total of 19 hours of classes a week, and you will be expected to study at least as many hours outside class reviewing and preparing for classes, reading, completing homework tasks and writing course assignments.
Types of classes : There is a range of class styles - students attend lectures, small group tutorials of 10 students and English language classes with a normal maximum of 12 students.
Timetable of classes : Classes are taught over 3 terms, each 10 weeks long. There is a reading week (a week without classes) in the middle of both the Autumn and Spring terms to give students a chance to catch up with their reading and work on their assignments.
There are practice exams ("Mocks") at the end of the spring term and final exams take place in the last three weeks of the academic year.

Foundation Diploma for Postgraduate studies(Pre-Master's Programme (FDPS))
석사예비과정으로 3텀으로 구성되며 9월 또는 10월에 시작되며 Humanities, Social Sciences, Business-related Studies
로의 석사진학을 원하고자하는 분들을 위한 프로그램이다. 본 과정을 통해 SOAS 뿐만아니라 LSE, UCL, King's college, Imperial College, Birkbeck college, Goldsmith's college, Royal holloway college, University of cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, nottingham, Manchester, kent등 상위랭킹의 학교들로 다양하게 지원하고 있다.
Number of hours : You will have between 16 and 18 hours a week of timetabled classes. In addition, you will be expected to spend at least 20 hours of your own time preparing topics for discussion, completing assignments and doing independent research and further reading.
Timetabled classes involve Lectures, English classes (maximum 12 students), Seminars (maximum 10 students), 1-1 tutorials
You are expected to attend all your classes regularly. SOAS has a minimum attendance requirement of 80% and poor attendance will probably affect your performance in class and the reports your teachers write for you, which will ultimately affect the references the department provides in support of your applications for postgraduate study or research.

SOAS에서는 Pri-intermediate 레벨이상의 학생들 즉 중급이상의 학생들만 공부할 수 있도록 제한해두고 있다. 가장 기본인 아카데믹영어와 한단계 영어레벨이 업되면 다음 텀에 아카데믹 과목들을 공부할 수있다.
우선 가장 기본이 되는 Intensive Academic English A1은 주당 18시간 공부하게 되며 영어레벨이 IELTS 기준으로 4.5점일 경우 본 코스부터 반드시 시작해야한다. 영어의 가장 기본인 listening, speaking, reading, writing을 공부하게된다.
영어레벨이 IELTS 5.0 이상 될 경우 Academic English A2,A3,A4를 수강할수 있다며 주당 10시간으로 구성된다. 본코스는 학사, 석사를 들어가기 전 아카데믹 과목에 따른 writing에 대한 스킬을 공부하는데, A4인경우 research methodology가 포함되어있다.
