De Montfort University는 런던 북서쪽 153km, 버밍엄 북동쪽 약 60km 지점에 있는 Leicester시의 중심에 위치하고 있다. 레스터는 잉글랜드 중부에 위치해 있는 다문화 도시이며 영국에서 첫 번째 가는 환경도시이다.
DMU는1870년 Leicester School of Art라는 소규모 예술 학교로부터 시작하였다. 1992년 밀턴케인즈캠퍼스의 공식 개관과 함께 이 지역 출신인 12세기 의회주의 정치인 드몽포르의 이름을 따 드몽포르대학교로 교명을 변경하며 지금의 종합대학으로 발전되었으며 1994년 베트포드와 링컨에 두개의 캠퍼스를 설립하였다.
DMU는 훌륭한 시설과 최상의 지원에 기반한 학습환경을 제공하는 학교로 주목 받고 있다.
본교에는 약 14,000의 학부생과 1,000여명의 대학원생들이 공부하고 있는데 이 중에는 100여개 국가에서 온 1,200여명의 국제학생들이 재학하고 있는 국제학교이다. DMU는 40개국 60여개의 대학교들과 교류하고 있으며 92%의 졸업생들이 취업을 하거나 대학원을 진학하고 있다.

또한, 레스터 코메디 페스티발, 유명한 Cultural Exchange Festival과 함께 파리, 암스테르담등에서 열리는 행사에 참가하는 리서치 프로젝트가 학과 과정에 포함되어 있는 것 또한 장점이다.
석사 과정인 Cultural Event Management 의 경우는 좀더 심화 과정으로서, British Arts Festivals Association, Festival Republic 등의 단체에서 리서치 할수 있다.
