TCD 학교 간략 소개
아일랜드에서 가장 오래된 대학으로, 1592년 영국 여왕 엘리자베스 1세에 의해 설립되었다. 더블린 종합 대학교(University of Dublin)의 유일한 단과대학으로 트리니티대학이 곧 더블린대학교이다.
약 190,000㎡의 부지에 엔터프라이즈센터(Trinity College Enterprise Centre)와 도서관, 다이닝 홀(Dining Hall) 등 유서깊은 건물이 즐비하며, 캠퍼스 곳곳에 아름다운 광장이 많다. 의회 광장(Parliament Square)에는 19세기 중엽에 건축된 종탑(Campanile)이 대학의 상징으로 자리하고 있다.
400년의 역사를 가지 인문과로 유명한 대학으로 예술·인문·사회과학, 공학·수학·과학, 보건학의 3개 학부로 이루어져있고 약17000 여명의 학생이 공부하고 있다.
전세계에서 유일하게 9세기 고서를 보관하고 있는 대학
트리니티대학에서 가장 대표적인 건물은 도서관(The Old Library)으로, 아치형 천정의 롱룸(Long Room)에는 9세기에 만들어진 복음서 <켈스의 서 (The Book of Kells)>를 포함하여 2만여 권의 장서가 소장되어 있다. 이 도서관은 세계에서 가장 많은 고서를 소장하고 있는 도서관 중 하나로, <켈스의 서> 관람을 위해 매년 50만여 명의 관광객이 이곳을 방문한다.

<걸리버 여행기>의 저자인 조나단 스위프트(Jonathan Swift)와 《고도를 기다리며》의 저자 사뮈엘 베케트(Samuel Beckette), 시인이자 극작가인 예이츠(William B. Yeats), 수학자 로완 해밀톤(Rowan Hamilton), 원자력 연구로 노벨상을 수상한 과학자 왈튼(E.T.S. Walton) 등 각 분야의 유명인을 많이 배출하였다.
